The Truth About Royksopp

For some odd reason there seems to be some confusion about Royksopp and their newest album "Senior." This Album for many dropped in September, but iTunes has it listed as coming out in October, and other sources claim that it just dropped a week or two before Thanksgiving. Now Senior is a pretty solid, but it's definitely not their best work. Which kind of saddened me because Royksopp usually finds a way to top themselves with each LP.

Melody A.M. < The Understanding < Junior > Senior

Interestingly enough, I don't consider Senior to really be their newest thing. It's a direct follow up to Junior, which is obvious due to the names. Think of it as a B-sides or something. Junior was really upbeat and had way more vocals than usual. And Senior takes them back to the melody a.m. breakbeat chill feel. One good example of this is the duality of the Tricky songs. Both of which being so-so tracks on each album, but it helps to prove my point.

Now that we have discussed Senior, let's get to the meat of this post.

I think Royksopp is up to no good. In a good way. Since August they've been releasing free tracks on the their Website. Songs of the Month. These song can't be found on ANY albums, but they're absolutely gold. Some of Royksopp's best! My guess is that they'll be released on an LP coming soon, and they wont make us wait too long. My favorite is their most recent release, "I Wanna Know."

I not even going to give you the chance to preview it, you MUST download this MP3.

Also in promotion of the Album Senior, they made a nice little streaming movie with a european independent film feel to it. In it played a Track not found on Senior called "This Space." Odd move, but the track is very worthy of checking out. It has that old school Royksopp feel, but it's oh so fresh.

The particular song starts 4 and half minutes in the video. And I put up the track for the song because I know you'll want it afterward.
